David A. Hersey

David “Grumpy” Hersey of Exeter, NH, passed away on Sunday, September 8th at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born in Amesbury, MA on October 20, 1960, one of six children of the late Emily (Lawson) and Harry Hersey and had attended Amesbury Public Schools. David was a “jack of all trades” but an exceptional carpenter.

He leaves behind his son, Jarrod and wife Jamie of Exeter, NH; three grandsons, Teddy, Harrison, and William, all of Exeter, NH; two granddaughters, Kourtney and Kiaunah, all of Kentucky; three sisters, Linda Cammett of Newton, NH, Cathy Goodwin of Newburyport, and Pam Binette of Arizona; a brother, Ken Hersey of Merrimac, along with extended family and many close friends and acquaintances. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his oldest son, David A. Hersey, Jr. and his brother, John L. Hersey, who recently passed on June 2, 2024.

Many will miss his “pop-ins,” which always consisted of a quick witted comment, a new joke and a “gotta go!”

A private burial will be held on Saturday, September 14th. Please join us on Sunday, September 15th, to celebrate his life with family and friends at the Old Oak in Merrimac MA, from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. In lieu of flower, please consider making donations in memory of David A.
