Edward G. Power, age 76, longtime resident of Newburyport, passed peacefully at his home on Thursday morning, March 21, 2024, surrounded by the loving presence of his family. He was the devoted husband of Madeline E. (Esposito) Power, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
Born in Cambridge, MA , September 6, 1947, he was one of four children of the late Thomas and Bridget (Boyle) Power and was a 1965 graduate of Saint Mary of the Annunciation High School .
Shortly after graduating from high school, Ed entered the military, proudly serving with the United States Army from June 27, 1966 until his honorable discharge on June 26, 1969, with the rank of SP-5. His decorations include the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the Vietnam Combat Medal with 60 Device, Army Combat Badge, 2 Over Seas Bars, Good Conduct Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.
After his Military Service, Ed worked for Verizon as a Staff Manager, retiring after 40 years of dedicated service. Ed became a member of St. Mark’s Lodge of Newburyport in 2010, had received the Mason of the Year Award, served as Secretary of the Lodge and was a recipient of the prestigious Joseph Warren Medal.
His life’s legacy will always be remembered by his wife, Madeline Power; his daughter, Julie Coolidge and her husband Brian; two granddaughters, who were his shining stars, Brooke Coolidge and Taylor Coolidge; a brother, Patrick Power and his wife Betty; a sister, Catherine Kelleher and her husband John; along with several nieces and nephews, extended family, and many dear friends and colleagues. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Thomas Power, Jr. He will be dearly missed by them all.
Visiting hours at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, will be Tuesday, March 26, 2024 from 4 to 7:30 P.M., followed by a Masonic Service by the Officers and members of St. Mark’s Lodge. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 42 Green Street, Newburyport and a private burial will take place on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the National Veterans Cemetery in Bourne, MA, where he will be laid to eternal rest.
