Elizabeth B. Carey

Elizabeth Barnes Carey “Bess” died peacefully at Salem Hospital in Salem, MA on February 11, 2024. A few days before her death, Bess enjoyed many visits from her family and close friends.

Bess attended Wheaton College (MA) and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tufts University.

Bess had many friends of all ages, a wonderful sense of humor and an incredible way with words. She loved books of all genres and enjoyed the re-runs of Perry Mason, The Rifle Man and Bonanza.

Bess was preceded in death by her parents, Charles D. Carey, Jr. and Margaret Barnes Carey. She is survived by her brother, Charles D. Carey, III (Dave), his wife, Rebecca L. Geiger (Becky) and their daughter, Rachel G. Carey and her sister, Ellison M. Carey, all of Lewes, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The American Heritage Center, University of WY, Dept 3924, 1000 E University Ave, Laramie WY 82071, for the digitization of Joseph M. Carey’s papers (her Great Grandfather, Senator and Governor of Wyoming) or the Merrimack Valley Food Bank, 1703 Middlesex Street, Lowell, MA 01851.
