Elsie May (Gurney) Colloten, 92, passed away peacefully at Elizabeth Calsey House, Amesbury, on February, 13, 2024.
She was born in Brockton, MA on July 10, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Lester and Effie (Somers) Gurney. She was raised and educated in Amesbury, MA and was a graduate of Amesbury High School, Class of 1949.
Elsie made her career at Western Electric / AT&T Technologies, North Andover, MA working in the Payroll Department then advancing to General Accounting. She retired in July 1993 with 38 years of service. She was a member of the CWA #1366 and the New Outlook Pioneers, Chapter #131.
Elsie had a great passion for photography. She carried her camera everywhere. She enjoyed playing forty-fives, Kitty Whist, Bingo, and Mahjong. She loved the Theatre and dining out with friends. She loved animals, especially her cat “Frisky†who provided her much joy and companionship.
Elsie was the devoted wife of the late George F. Colloten, with whom she shared 36 years of marriage before he passed away in January 2011. George was the love of her life.
She will be deeply missed by her extended family, Marie & Paul Guy and their children, Matthew Guy and Stephanie & Zachary Dumas, (who has always referred to her as “Aunty Elsieâ€), cousins and friends.
A private graveside service will be held at Bartlett Cemetery, where Elsie will be laid to eternal rest beside her beloved husband, George. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society, 63 Elm Street, Salisbury, MA 01952.
