Evelyn J. Ahern

Evelyn J. (Tanzi) Ahern, age 81, of Byfield, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 16, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Evelyn is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, John J. Ahern, sharing memories that will be treasured forever.

Born in Boston, August 8, 1942, she was one of three children of the late Alfred and Mary (Bertorelli) Tanzi. Evelyn was a graduate of Woburn High School and attended Chandler Business School. She worked at Transitron where she and John met. After they married, Evelyn’s primary devotion was to lovingly raise and care for her family. She then went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service, first as a Mail Carrier in Byfield then as a clerk in Newburyport until her retirement.

As anyone who knew Evelyn would know, she loved to laugh. She had a heart of gold and truly enjoyed sewing, quilting and crafting as well as spending time at the beach. Above all, she cherished being with her family, especially her three grandchildren whom she loved deeply.

In addition to her husband John, she will be fondly remembered by her two daughters, Andrea DeSario and husband Frank and Karen Clemenzi and husband Brendan; her three grandchildren, Joseph and Matthew DeSario and Natalie Clemenzi. She is also survived by her siblings Paul Tanzi and Barbara Tanzi, along with many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 42 Green Street, Newburyport, MA 01950.
