George Robert (Bob) Sanborn

George R. “Bob” Sanborn, age 96, lifelong resident of Salisbury, passed peacefully in his home in the presence of his daughter Cindy, on Sunday evening, October 13, 2024. He was the loving husband of Betty, who passed in April, having been married 73 years.

Born in Amesbury on September 29, 1928, he was one of three children of Theophilus Sanborn and Mary W. (York) Sanborn. He was predeceased by his brother, Theo Jr. and his sister, Barbara Kuegel.

In addition to Bob being an accomplished carpenter, he built his home 65 years ago and resided there until his death. Also, he was a great outdoors man being an avid deer hunter and fisheman although moose, wild boar and turkeys were included in some of his expeditions.

He also love canoeing, snowmobiling, clam digging, oystering and growing a large vegetable garden which he took pleasure in sharing with the neighbors from the back of his truck. With his wife they ventured into cleaning out attic spaces, repairing, refinishing antique furniture and other Treasures to be sold or to be placed in their home or the children’s homes. He loved his trips especially to northern New England on camping trips with his family which always included a trip or two to the local camps at night looking for bears in the headlights. Alaska to South America and numerous other adventures were enjoyed with friends fondly referred to as “the gang”.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Sanborn; granddaughter, Sarah Sabino and her husband John of Salisbury; grandson Colby Grenier and wife Julie of Norwell, MA; four great-grandsons, Lucas and Alex Sabino and Sam and Charlie Grenier, along with two sons-in-law, James Grenier and Eugene Willis, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at 3:30 P.M. at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, MA 01913. The family will have a private burial for Betty and Bob in the Spring of 2025.
