It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gilda E LaBarba on May 25, 2024, at the age of 94 in Newburyport, MA. Gilda was born on May 27, 1929, in Canosa Sannita, Italy to Pietro and Matilde DiCola. She was a loving wife to Nicola LaBarba and is survived by her son Frank LaBarba and wife Tiziana, two brothers, Aldo and Remo DiCola, two grandchildren, Gilda and Nicole, and two great-grandchildren, Ava and Mila.

Gilda will be remembered for her love of gardening, cooking, and baking. She had an exceptional singing voice and was truly dedicated to her family. However most of all, she will be remembered for being a hard working lady all of her life.

After she immigrated from Italy in 1955, Gilda spent many years working at CBS-Hytron Tube Manufacturer in Newburyport. She and her husband Nick also worked for many years making pizza and made the foundation of what Nick’s Pizza is today. Gilda made delicious pizzas at Nicks Pizza for over 50 years. After they got older, Gilda and her husband enjoyed traveling to Italy annually and cherished their time together.

In addition to her professional pursuits, Gilda was a beloved member of her community and had a warm presence that will be deeply missed. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family.

To honor Gilda’s memory and legacy, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Research (https://www.alz.org/reserch) in her name. May she rest in peace and may her spirit continue to shine bright in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
