John P. Maynard, age 76, of Amesbury, passed early Saturday morning, March 2, 2024, at the High Pointe House Hospice in Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Haverhill, February 23, 1948, he was the son of the late Ivan and Alceanna E. (Durant) Maynard. He was born and raised in Haverhill where he attended Haverhill High School.
He was proud to serve with the United States Army Reserves from 1971 to 1978 during the Vietnam Era.
John worked at Brockway Smith for several years making doors and windows and was proud to be a Teamster. He had a love for being a Steward there making sure people were treated right, he could argue with the best of them. He later went on to work at Johnson Lumber in Salisbury as well as several odd carpentry jobs. After retiring, John decided to work part time as a bus driver for the Newburyport schools where he loved seeing the smiling faces of “his kids†everyday.
An avid Red Sox fan, he enjoyed taking his daughters on opening day and being a coach for his daughter’s softball and basketball teams. John was involved in many Amesbury councils and groups such as being a City Councilman and a member of the Amesbury Youth Council. John was also an active member of the Amesbury Playhouse where he enjoyed building the sets and being on stage as an actor. He also enjoyed woodworking and tinkering in his workshop where he was always in the middle of one project or another.
He will be dearly missed by his daughters, Stacy Romasco and her husband, Tony and Kelly Maynard and fiance Mark Folger, and their mother Lynn Maynard; his granddaughters who held a very special place in his heart, Lily Maynard and Olivia and Amelia Romasco, along with extended family and several close friends.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, March 8, 2024 from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, immediately followed by funeral services at the funeral home at 12 P.M., followed by a graveside service at the Highland Cemetery in Newton, NH where John will be laid to eternal rest. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider making donations in memory of John P. Maynard to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Disabled Veterans of America.
