Jr. Alfred J. Roy

d. September 17, 2024

Alfred J. Roy, Jr., age 96, longtime Merrimac resident, died Tuesday morning, September 17, 2024.

Born in Amesbury, July 30, 1928, he was the son of Alfred Roy, Sr. and Marie Roy. Alfred, who grew up in Amesbury, enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 18. After four years he came home to Amesbury, however, there was no work, so he hitched a ride into Charlestown and enlisted in the Army for another four years. He proudly served his Country for eight years. After his discharge, he began working for Delta Airline where he had a long and successful career until he retired in 1988.

In 1955, he married the love of his life, Florence Simpson, and they were married 64 years until her death in 2019. Alfred, otherwise known to most as “Papa”, was always the life of the party. Those who knew him knew he loved life an loved to have a good time. You could often find him at the New Old Oak having a rum and coke, horsing around on the ground with his grandchildren, bowling, boating, playing cards or peacefully looking through his telescope at the stars.

Al loved to stir the pot. Whether it was debating politics or giving his wife a hard time, he was always up to something. However, as much as he drove people crazy, you couldn’t help but adore him and laugh with him. His love for his family was fierce and he was always there for everyone.

Alfred lived a full, peaceful life at the Lake. He deeply enjoyed his children, grandchildren and just recently, he enjoyed his great-grandchildren.

His life’s memories will continue to be treasured by his family for years to come: his daughter, Lisa A. Brucker and husband Stephan of N. Andover; son, Peter Roy of Boston; grandchildren, Lexy Johnson and husband James, Lauren Spicer and husband Jared, and Alec Brucker; and great-grandchildren, Mason Johnson and Parker Spicer. He also leaves behind many family members and dear friends, especially Joy Azar, who was another daughter to him, and his nieces and nephews from Amesbury, Salisbury, and San Diego, CA. He will always be in their hearts.

By request of the family, there will be no services at this time. A Celebration of his Life will take place at a later date. His ashes along with his wife’s ashes will be spread at Lake Attitash at a later date during a private ceremony. Arrangements were by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac, MA.
