Lawrence W. (Sarge) Hardy, 90, of Merrimac, died peacefully at High Point House in Haverhill on December 5, 2024, surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 9, 1934, in Little Deer Isle, ME, the son of the late Maurice and Ruby (Snowman) Hardy. Lawrence relocated to Merrimac upon the re-marriage of his mother to George Sewell.
He attended school in Merrimac, MA graduating in 1953. Following graduation Lawrence enlisted in the Air Force where he trained as an electronics technician.
After completing basic and advanced training Lawrence married his high school sweetheart, Joyce V. Heath. Lawrence and Joyce were posted all over the globe with their family and Joyce’s younger brother, Richard, during his 20+ years of service with Lawrence serving also in the Vietnam conflict. Lawrence retired as a Master Sargeant and went on to earn an A.S. from Northern Essex Community College.
Lawrence and Joyce were married 49 years before she passed on from cancer in 2005. Upon retirement from the Air Force Lawrence was employed at the Boston office of the Federal Communications Commission as a technician and investigator. He subsequently retired from the FCC to open Spectrum Investigative Services which provided services to the broadcast industry and commercial maritime clients.
He was one of eight children. He was pre-deceased by his sisters, Jean Haskell and Katherine Sweeney; and his brothers, Wilfred, Stanley and Maurice (Billy). He is survived by two sisters living, Juanita Moffit of Merrimac and Janice Fisher of Newton, NH.
Lawrence was an avid pool player competing in tournaments on a regular basis, enjoyed boating and swimming. He would use his electronics expertise to create fun and interactive holiday activities. Halloween was a particular favorite where he employed the “talking” pumpkin.
He is survived by his two loving children Bonnie Joyce, her husband, Peter Kitsakos; Sheryll Joy her husband, J.R. Amirault, all of Merrimac; his wife, Marcia (Girroir-Tilton) of Merrimac, MA; two step-daughters Robin of North Carolina and Sally of Newton, and his in laws, Richard & Debbie (Colby) Heath of Amesbury. Lawrence also leaves seven grandchildren: Kaytlin Kitsakos; Alexis Moazeni; Peter Kitsakos; Cameron Kitsakos; Michael Atkins; Tyler Atkins and Cheyenne Hoyt in addition to twelve great-grandchildren: Talya Moazeni; Becket Grimes, Peter R. Kitsakos; Danika Kitsakos; Colten Moazeni; Hayden Moazeni; and Ashton Atkins; Adelaide Atkins; August Atkins; Jackson Kaplan; Tanner Atkins; Tiegen Amirault and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac, MA from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. immediately followed by Funeral Services at 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home followed by a Graveside Service at Locust Grove Cemetery, where Lawrence will be laid to eternal rest.
