Marilyn Louise Sweeney

Marilyn Louise Sweeney, age 94, of Amesbury, passed away on March 1, 2024.

She was born on June 11, 1929 in Lynn to the late William and Marie Irvine and was the last surviving sibling of thirteen children who were often referred to as the baker’s dozen.

Lyn, as her friends called her, had many hobbies to fill her spare time including sewing, knitting, gardening and crafts. She also did much volunteer work throughout her life. She was a member of the V.F.W. Post 507 in Lynn where she became the President of the Ladies Auxiliary.

She took great joy in spending time with her family creating memories that will live on in their hearts forever. Lyn’s presence will be deeply missed by her family and friends but her spirit will continue to live on through the love and memories she shared with them.

She is survived by her five children, Diana Vetere of Lynnfield, Deborah O’Rourke of Salisbury, Wayne Hayward of Ohio, Darlene and her husband Kevin Souza, and Doreen Kent of Amesbury; 20 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several generations of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Rhonda Hayward of Lynn.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, March 9th from 11a.m.-1 p.m. in the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury.
