Muriel B. (Mallard) Knight, age 100, longtime resident of Newbury, passed peacefully early Saturday morning, January 6, 2024, at the Salisbury Assisted Living Center. She was the wife of the late Donald Knight who passed back in 1985.
Born in Ipswich, February 20, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Marion (Wheeler) Mallard, and was a graduate of Ipswich High School.
Muriel was one of the first woman to enter the United States Navy with the WAVES during World War II, serving from May 18, 1943 to August 14, 1946, when she was discharged with the rank of Chief Yeoman.
For many years, she had worked as a secretary at the Newbury Town Hall.
She leaves behind a lifetime of memories to her three children, Donald Knight, Jo Ann LeBel, and Judith Frank, her eleven grandchildren and her 13 great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss her.
She will be placed to eternal rest beside her husband, Donald, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Newbury. A private funeral service will be held for the family in Summer of 2024. Arrangements were by Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, MA
