Carla Pickard (53) of Amesbury died unexpectedly at her home due to natural causes on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
Carla’s biggest joy in her life that gave her the most fulfillment and sense of accomplishment was being a stay-at-home mom to her two children Kyle, 18, and Ava Cardone, 16. She relished teaching them about raising monarch butterflies, a hobby she began as a young child, nature, gardening and cooking. Pesto anyone?
She also enjoyed hiking and camping, particularly in the Acadia National Park region, and was always ready for a road trip, or spending hours at an ocean beach or Pawtuckaway State Park. At home she enjoyed being outdoors, puttering in the yard, grilling, taking photographs, and spending time with friends. She was particularly kind to animals and was developing a passion for environmental preservation.
Before she had children she was employed at Verizon for several years and then made jewelry which she sold on-line and at craft shows.
Carla was not fond of high school but relished learning, she went on to earn several college degrees: a Paralegal degree from Bunker Hill Community College, then a bachelor’s in Business Administration from Emmanuel College, and finally two Masters’, one in Business the other in Education, both from Southern New Hampshire University.
In addition to her children she leaves behind her mother Elizabeth Costlow of Fletcher, North Carolina, father Kim Pickard and stepmother Ellen Hanick of Newburyport, sister Jill Peabody and her husband Scott Egan of Groveland; brother Sean Pickard and his partner Justine McGreevy of Seattle, nephew Calvin Peabody of Reading, and former husband Brian Cardone of Merrimac.
Calling hours will be on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main St., Merrimac, MA. Dispersal of her ashes will be at a private event to be arranged.
