OBITUARY
Dennis Clarke, age 77, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, at the Partridge House Assisted Living & Memory Care facility in Hampton, NH on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Dennis was born on August 25, 1946 in Lynn, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late Frederick Clarke and the late Jacqueline (Roberts) Clarke.
Dennis was a long-time resident of West Peabody, Massachusetts and a winter resident of Little River, South Carolina with his beloved wife, Patricia Clarke until her passing in 2020. They were avid members of the South Carolina golfing community.
Dennis was a graduate of Lynn Trade School and was employed as a carpenter for various contractors before starting his own business in 1968. He also served as a special police officer for the City of Lynn at one time.
Dennis was a successful and well-known general contractor in the Peabody and surrounding areas. He was a highly skilled carpenter who built many beautiful kitchens as well as numerous residential additions and projects. He had a natural artistic talent and could draw just about anything, including portraits. He also enjoyed creating different wood carvings as well as crafting with wood. He enjoyed his interactions with many of his repeat customers and never hesitated to stop and chat with them during his daily travels. He was genuinely a very nice guy.
Dennis was happiest when with his family members and friends or on the golf course with Patti and their golfing buddies. Dennis and Patti hosted traditional family reunions on the 4th of July at their home in Peabody, Massachusetts for many years. Dennis also had a very special connection with his oldest grandson Casey, who knew him as “Gramps”. They would take off on weekend adventures together when Casey was just a toddler. That bond continued and soon Casey could outdrive “Gramps” on the golf course and just about everyone else in the group.
Dennis is survived by his daughter Tracy Saitow-Cronin and her husband Michael of Merrimac, Massachusetts, with whom he made his home after retiring due to his Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Daughter, Joelle Mather and her husband David of Haverhill, Massachusetts; twin brother Frederick Clarke of Lynn, Massachusetts; son-in-law Jim Saitow of Sandown, NH. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Casey Saitow of Merrimac, Samuel Mather and Sydney Mather, of Haverhill. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
Dennis was predeceased by his wife Patricia Clarke and his brother John Clarke.
Dennis was stricken with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016 and his wife Patricia became his caregiver until her passing in 2020. Dennis then moved in with his daughter Tracy and her family before becoming a resident of Partridge House. On behalf of his family we would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to the staff at Partridge House and Director Sarah Kearney for their kindness and attention to all his needs.
A private family service will be held at Locust Grove Cemetery where he will be laid to eternal rest and a gathering to honor him will be held later this year.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his honor to the Alzheimer’s Association,
www.alz.org so that we may be one step closer to eradicating this terrible disease.
