Robert L. Shelley, age 73, of Amesbury, passed on Monday afternoon, July 22, 2024 at Lahey Medical Center in Burlington, with his loving family at his side.
Born in Boston, December 31, 1950, he was the son of the late Herod Shelley and Rebecca (Jones) Lee.
He enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving from June 12, 1980 until his honorable discharge on June 30, 1995, with the rank of Sergeant First Class, E-7.
After fulfilling his military service, Robert went on to further his education, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Rivier University. For many years Robert worked in Nashua and Portsmouth, NH for both the private and public sector.
He was a quiet person at first but when he warmed up he would share his experiences and love of music, especially, Jazz with anyone who would listen. He was in many drum and bugle groups throughout his life. He was an avid fan of the New England Sports teams, enjoyed watching his favorite TV shows and loved art. Additionally, Robert always looked forward to enjoying Popeye’s Chicken and a tasty shot of Scotch. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and last, but not least, his beloved cats, Ada and Boo.
His life’s legacy will continue to inspire his family, including his beloved wife, Betti J. (Sullivan) Shelley; his children, son Nathan, daughter-in-law Jenn, son Greg, and his daughter Bree; as well as his step-children, Carol and Charles; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy: Dante, Lilly, Eric, Lauren, Teague, Braeden, Cameron, Grace and Liam and great-grandchildren, Zion, Anthony and Carson, along with extended family, and many dear, dear friends. He will never be forgotten, and his presence will always be with those who loved him so dearly.
At his request, there will be no services. His wishes were to be taken out to sea to be released for eternity. May the treasures of his life continue to bring you comfort and fond memories forever. Arrangements were by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, MA 01913.
