Russell C. Tilton, age 96, proud lifelong resident of Salisbury, MA, passed at his home on Saturday, May 18, 2024.
Born on December 14, 1927, he was the son of the late Ann May Tilton and was brought up by his grandmother, Florence Tilton Witham and grandfather, Joe Witham. He attended Grammar school in Salisbury and attended Amesbury High School.
Russ joined the United States Army on April 12, 1946 and served until September 20, 1947 and had been stationed in Japan. He was the second man hired at Pease Air Force Base under the United States Civil service Commission.
After his military service, he ran Tilton Motor Sales and Bolens Outdoor Power Equipment.
He was married to the former L. Patricia Kelly, and they had two sons, David R. Tilton of Salisbury, MA and Wayne A. Tilton of Maine; a granddaughter, Sherry Ann Clark; a great-granddaughter, Faith Clark; a great-great-granddaughter, Ava and a great-great-grandson, Jax.
Russ was a member of the Police Department of Salisbury and also of the Fire Department of Salisbury, retiring as a Lieutenant. He was also a proud member of the Lions Club, Masons, Shriners, VFW and the American Legion.
One of his greatest enjoyments was going for rides regularly and out to eat with his son David five days out of every week.
Born on the homestead of 51 Main Street, Salisbury, he always wanted to die on the Homestead, and he DID!!
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Highland chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, immediately followed by services at the funeral home at 6 p.m. A graveside service for Russell will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 11 A.M. at Hillside Cemetery, where he will be laid to eternal rest .
