Ruth (Woodsom) Twomey

September 22, 1924 - April 2, 2024

Ruth Woodsom Twomey, 99, passed on April 2, 2024, at the Elizabeth Calsey House in Amesbury, Mass. She was the daughter of Jewell D. Woodsom and Stella Gallagher Woodsom. Ruth grew up on Woodsom Farm on Lions Mouth Road along with her seven sisters and one brother. After graduating from Amesbury High School, she attended Salem Secretarial School. During World War II, Ruth worked in Washington DC for three years for the Department of the Navy. At the end of the war, she returned home where on a sunny day at Plum Island she met her husband Michael F. Twomey Jr. and they married and settled in Newburyport to raise their family.

She was predeceased by her husband Mike in 2012 and her son Michael S. Twomey in 2017, and her sisters Harriet Gould, Anna Woodsom, Helen MacBurnie, Eleanor DuGrenier and cousin James Woodsom. Ruth is survived by her brother George Woodsom and sisters Mary DuGrenier, Marjorie Sicard, Sally Anderson and numerous nieces , nephews and dear friends. She will forever be missed by her daughters Diane Rich and husband Jeffrey, Marsha Blake and James Joyce and daughter-in-law Shari Twomey. She was a loving extraordinary grandmother to Andrea Ruth Rabatic and husband Bryan, and to Keegan Michael Twomey and wife Jessica, and adored great-grandmother to Ella Ruth Rabatic with whom she shared a love for the beach.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 9 at 11:00 am at the Bartlett Cemetery in Amesbury, MA. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her honor to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements were by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, MA 01913.
