Sally Heine Plourde of Newbury, MA, passed away on February 8 at the age of 78. Born in 1946 in Santa Monica, CA, to Lucille and Clarence Heine, she spent her childhood in many places, including California, Montreal, and Washington, D.C., alongside her older siblings, Suzanne Choisser and Jack Heine.
As a student at Lesley Teachers College in Cambridge, MA, Sally met her first husband, Robert Lafleur after graduation. They eventually settled in New Hampshire, where she worked as a middle school teacher until the birth of her first son, Julien, in 1973. Her second son, Jack, was born in 1975.
Always looking for a challenge, Sally pursued a Master’s degree and, in 1981, transitioned into a career as a social worker. Through her work, she met the love of her life, Dennis Plourde, and the two married in 1984. In 1985, they welcomed their daughter, Lily.
Sally and Dennis also fostered John Brandolini, whom they considered another son.
An adventurous spirit, Sally loved exploring the world. She cherished summers in Vinalhaven, Maine, especially when surrounded by her grandchildren. She had a passion for travel—most recently returning from Iceland—and was looking forward to visiting Ireland in November.
Sally embraced the outdoors in every season, finding joy in kayaking, hiking, skiing, and gardening. She was devoted to her home, her family, friends, and, above all, helping those in need.
She will be deeply missed by her beloved family, including her grandchildren: Mattie, Daniella and William Brandolini; Jarod and Jesse Plourde; Sage and Phelix Lafleur; and Elowyn and Baby Boy Letourneau; her brother, Jack Heine; her nieces and nephew, Natalie, Stephen, Dorsey, Mark, and Sarah; and her grand-nephews and niece, Max, Jackson, and Brayley.
A wake will be held at Rogers Funeral Home (35 Greene Street, Newburyport) on Wendnesday, February 12 at 10:00am followed by a memorial service at 12:00. There will be an Open House at her home from 2:00pm.
