Stephen Niedzinski, age 60, of Haverhill MA, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 24th, 2025. Stephen, son of late Michael and Constance (Waters) Niedzinski, lived in Wakefield MA in his youth. A tragic accident left Stephen with a traumatic brain injury when he was a 15 year old student at Austin Preparatory School. Stephen recovered from a coma and nearly year long hospitalization to push forward into a changed life. Stephen continued to pursue his education, receiving his high school diploma, to a standing ovation, from Wakefield High School.
In the years that followed, Stephen shared his very positive outlook with his family and anyone he encountered. His earlier injury left him with limitations but he did not consider these a major factor in his life. He was continually thankful, appreciating every small thing that anyone did for him. He kept his mind active by constant reading and an occasional game of chess or scrabble. He kept his body active with regular gym attendance (pre-covid) and adaptive golf and bowling.
Stephen attended a day program for decades where he received therapies and enjoyed socialization. This program was instrumental in his well-being.
Stephen was an avid sports fan. Go Red Sox! He was devoted to the New England sports teams no matter the record or the season. Even with a disappointment, he had complete confidence in tomorrow’s game.
Stephen continued to be cared for by his family following the passing of his parents. For more than the last decade Stephen has been under the constant care of his brother Michael and his niece Michaela. Their love and compassion allowed Stephen to be at home even as his needs increased.
Stephen will always be fondly remembered by siblings Mary (Niedzinski) Silver (Joel), Michael Niedzinski, and Amy (Niedzinski) Malonson (Mark); along with nephews, nieces, cousins, Aunts, Uncle, and friends.
