Stephen F. Rousseau

Stephen Rousseau, beloved father and cherished grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on January 25, 1952, in Beverly, MA Stephen lived a life defined by his hard work and willingness to help others. His love for family, his deep connection to local short track racing, and his unwavering devotion to others left an enduring mark on all who knew him.

Stephen spent many years immersed in the short track racing community—racing his beloved stock car, pit-crewing for friends and the Rousseau family, and even serving as crew chief for his daughter. His presence at the track was more than just participation; it was a testament to his passion and commitment. He also found joy in working alongside his brothers, niece, nephew, and many friends at Art’s Auto in Ipswich, where they spent countless hours working on cars and sharing memories. In his later years, as he began to slow down, Stephen took time to appreciate the beauty of nature around him. He enjoyed birdwatching, learning about the local wildlife, and spending peaceful moments by the river.

A true friend and mentor, Stephen embodied selflessness. He was always ready to lend a hand, fix a problem, or offer guidance.

Stephen’s greatest pride and joy were his daughter and grandchildren. He was a devoted father to Ashley Roes and her wife, Katie Roes, as well as to Ashley’s sister, Paige Proctor. Above all, he was the world’s best “Grampy” to Blake and Emmet Roes. He cherished his daily visits with them, always showering them with love. Whether reading books, playing basketball, doing search-and-find puzzles, watching their soccer games, or spending time together at Cider Hill Farm, Stephen found pure joy in being with his grandchildren. The smile on his face whenever he saw Blake and Emmet was unmistakable. Stephen also shared his life with his one-time wife and lifelong friend, Lori Martel.

Stephen’s family meant the world to him, and his legacy of love and strength will live on through them. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Parker River National Wildlife Refuge at their website https://parkerriver.org/donation/, a cause that was close to Stephen’s heart.
