Steven Leslie Krudop
September 8, 1958 - December 8, 2023
Steven Krudop peacefully passed away at home on December 8, 2023, after a valiant three-month battle with a rare liposarcoma, supported by the love of his life, his wife, Theresa Bresten. Known for his exceptional qualities of honesty, humility, compassion, humor, and strong work ethic, Steve’s departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, Steven spent his formative years in Carson City, Michigan, among two older brothers and two younger sisters. He often humorously referred to his close-knit community as “Amish.†His father imparted the love for the outdoors, while he shared a similar sense of humor with his beloved mother, whom he cherished and spoke to weekly. Steve excelled in various sports like tennis, table tennis, and karate, even mastering the art of riding an 8-foot-high unicycle.
Determined to pursue education, Steven put himself through Ferris State University and the University of Michigan Hospital School of Radiation. His thirst for knowledge led him to acquire a Bachelor of Science in Management from Lesley College and a Master of Business Administration from Suffolk University. In 1980, he relocated to Boston to commence his career at Mass General Hospital (MGH), retiring as a dedicated radiation therapist in August 2023.
Steve’s professional journey at MGH encompassed diverse roles, including proton therapy technical, C.A.T. scan therapist, engineering coordinator, senior radiation therapist, and assistant chief cyclotron therapist. His pride lay in his contributions at the Harvard Cyclotron laboratory, where proton therapy revolutionized cancer treatment, especially for children, minimizing side effects while eradicating tumors. Revered for his expertise, dedication, kindness, and quick wit, Steve was beloved by patients and colleagues alike.
A devoted father, Steve cherished every moment with his daughter, Janae, preserving her cards, letters and school papers. He created a haven for her in his Salem home, encouraging her to visit often. His face would light up recalling their cherished adventures from her childhood.
With his second wife, Theresa, he shared a passion for travel, exploring various corners of Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, and Central America. They enjoyed spending time together riding bikes, boating, golfing, nature walks, working out at the gym, theatre, concerts and fine dining. Settling in Plum Island, they dedicated years to renovating their home by the basin, fostering strong bonds with neighbors through his willingness to help and his knack for ingenious solutions. He loved to relax with a cigar and a scotch on the beach, watching the sunset with his wife, after a day of projects.
Steve is survived by his wife, Theresa Bresten, his daughter, Janae Alyssa, his stepdaughter, Renee Bresten, his stepson, Christopher Bresten, and step grandson, Wyatt Carter. He leaves behind his brothers, David Krudop and his wife Lauren, and Douglas Krudop and his wife Pam, his two sisters, Nancy Frey and Cheryl Krudop. He will be missed by his brother-in-law, Mario Ippolito and wife Stephanie, sister-in-law, Louise Knight and husband Andy, brother-in-law, Paul Ippolito, and brother-in-law, John Ippolito and wife Natasha, along with nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
