Susan "Susie" A. (Norris) Flinn

June 1, 1946 — February 12, 2025

West Newbry, MA

Sue Ann “Susie” Flinn, age 78, of West Newbury, died Wednesday, February 12, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, June 1, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Ellen Norris. Susie dedicated most of her life to her favorite passion, creating a life full of love and laughter with her family and friends. After her husband Mickey’s passing in 2013, “Grammy” became her grandchildren’s only living grandparent and a true matriarch for the family, passing on the memories, stories, hopes, and recipes that continued to bring everyone together. Susie was also preceded in death when her son, Sean of Tampa, Fl, passed in 2024.

Susie’s memories will be held dear by her daughters Kellie Hochheiser and her husband David of Newburyport and Holly Flinn of Newburyport; her daughter-in-law Kirstin Flinn of Tampa, FL; and her three grandchildren Grady Flinn and Avery and Declan Hochheiser of Newburyport, MA. While she was an only child to her parents, she truly became siblings to her two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Patrick Flinn of Ellicott City, MD, Timm and Debbie Flinn of Piqua, OH, and Julie Flinn of Tucson, AZ; and a loving aunt to her 5 nieces and 3 nephews.

Susie loved starting, raising and nurturing a family with Mickey. Both with him and since his passing, her greatest joys involved everything that family entails. After all of the years supporting her own children through their sports, schools, and other activities, she was still always excited to watch and take part in her grandkids’ successes in scouting, sports, theater, and school. Additionally, she worked for a long time at a doctor’s office in Ohio, and volunteered at the Red Cross in Newburyport for many years.

Susie had a gift for bringing people to the table with casseroles, chilis, and “famous” brownies and pies, loving nothing more than gatherings with friends and family. Whether traditional Christmas Eve at her house, celebrations for life’s milestones, regular gatherings with the “Ladies of The Hill,” events as members of the Dalton Club, or a trip to the beach, she had a smile that lit up everyone’s day and a knack for making every moment important.

Susie was a breast cancer survivor. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation - www.komen.org.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held Sunday, March 23, 2025 from 12-2 P.M. at the Dalton Club, 95 State, Newburyport. Arrangements were by Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, MA 01950.
