August 3, 1939 — January 18, 2025

West Newbury, MA

Wayne A. Sanborn, age 85, longtime resident of West Newbury, passed peacefully at his home on January 18, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Ingrid (Moberger) Sanborn for more than 60 years.

Born on August 3, 1939, he was the son of the late James and Winifred (Christie) Sanborn. He was raised in Reading and was a graduate of Reading High School. He furthered his education, receiving his Master’s Degree in chemical engineering from Tufts University. Wayne spent much of his career managing a branch office of Matheson Gas Products in Gloucester. Later on, he developed a second career as a continuing education instructor for industry professionals at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell.

Wayne loved everything about the ocean, from boating to fishing and especially sailing, spending much of that time in Ipswich Bay with family members there. During his retirement years, he and Ingrid built a solar-powered log home in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, where they happily spent many summers along the shore of Whycocomagh Bay.

Wayne will always be loved and remembered by his wife, Ingrid; son, Erik and wife Elaine Sanborn; daughters, Karin Sanborn and husband Don Browne, Greta Shepard and husband Steve, and Julianna Higgins and husband Tom; six grandchildren, whom he loved dearly; the family of his late brother David Sanborn, along with extended family and dear friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8th, 10:00 AM, at St. James Episcopal Church, 119 Washington St., Groveland, MA. Family and friends are welcome to attend. No flowers, please. If you would like to make a donation in memory of Wayne, please consider the following organizations:
